Indiana Bicycle Accidents and Pedestrian Accidents
Ball State University, the Cardinal Greenway trails, and the many historic towns throughout Central Indiana, make the metro area a prime spot for cyclists, walkers, and joggers. Because of the number of bicycles and people taking advantage of bike paths and walking trails throughout the Metropolitan areas, bicycle accidents, serious injuries to pedestrians, accidents involving children, and crosswalk accidents occur with alarming frequency.
If a car left you or a family member with serious injuries, while walking or riding a bicycle, the personal injury attorneys at the Indianapolis law office of William "Bill" Hurst can help. Pedestrian accidents and bicycle accidents often involve serious injuries, including spinal cord and brain injury or wrongful death. An experienced lawyer can help maximize your compensation to assist with present and future needs and medical treatment.

Be Aware of Bicyclists, Walkers and Runners Sharing the Road
Auto drivers need to make sure they look both ways when they approach an intersection, especially drivers making a right turn. Often drivers making a right turn will look left and make the turn when they see an opening. They do not realize a runner, walker, bicyclist, skateboarder or someone riding a moped or scooter may be on their right, crossing the street.
In 2009, 4,092 pedestrians died in traffic crashes - a 7% decrease from the number reported in 2008. Click here to read the full study. We would all like to see a decrease in that number and it is important that people be aware of their surroundings and practice safe skills to keep safe if they are walking or running. For some helpful tips to keep you safe as a pedestrian, click here. Law enforcement has also taken a great role in protecting cyclists and pedestrians and you can watch a video that was created specifically for law enforcement by going here.
Other car accidents involving a bicycle, pedestrian or moped are caused by driver negligence or recklessness, including running a stop sign or stoplight and not observing crosswalks. Bicycle accidents and pedestrian accidents also happen in areas where drivers are focused more on the surrounding vehicles, including parking lot accidents, when drivers are trying to back up or fit into a space and are oblivious to the person walking right behind them or the bicyclist coming by beside their car.
